I am having IE6 caching problems and can find neither of the subject files in
Temporary Internet Files (TIF). They are present for the Administrator but
not for Current User (me).

Are these files necessary? How do I recover them since the system will not
let me delete the TIF folder. I am also the Administrator for this machine.

Thanks.

Hi harris :-)

Your TIF folder or Index.dat may be corrupted. Try the following and see if
it helps:

Deltree. Instructions here:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree

also.....

Recreating the cache, history and cookie folders when corrupted
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree
See http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers.htm#cookies and
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree

and....

Your User profile may be corrupted. You can try deleting you profile and
creating a new one and see if that helps: Be sure to back up all your
personal settings, files and documents before deleting your profile.

You might also try this free utility:

You might also try the CacheSentry: Free
http://www.enigmaticsoftware.com/cachesentry/index.html

"This is a program that fixes serious bugs in the Internet Explorer cache
manager (versions 3.0 on up through and including Internet Explorer for
Windows XP, and IE6). This program basically takes over the job of managing"

Hope this helps

Jan :)

If you sign on as Administrator you'll see them under your profile but not
the Administrator profile. Windows hides them for the current profile. Why
do you think you need to recover them?

Thanks all. I will try to delete these files from another user account.

The reason I think I need to recover these files is the cache is not working
properly anymore. I have gotten into the habit of saving elsewhere
favicon.ico files from TIF but they no longer appear there. Also the TIF is
full of cookies which I thought should be stored in the Cookies folder. For
what it's worth the Cookies folder contains index.dat but the History and TIF
folders do not. Nor do the latter two contain the subfolders History.IE5 and
Content.IE5, respectively.

Wow. I created a new user account and from this account I can see the
missing subfolders and index files! Curious these files are hidden from the
current user despite the fact Explorer Folder Options are set to show hidden
and system files.

So not sure where the icon files are going but will investigate further.

Thanks again.
