Hi all,

Is there a clever trick that eludes me? I have a text box
in which I would like to have a bullet list. If I try to
indent the bullet list I get a new text box. I've tried
everything I can think of but the result is always the
same. If anyone has any hints I would be off-the-scale
happy.

Thanks!

Sharon R.

Set up a paragraph style including the bullets you prefer and apply it to
the text in the text box.

Thanks Graham, I tried that already ... my style is
called List Bullet. It works OK when the left margin is
the same as the text above. However, no matter what I do,
whenever I attempt to indent it causes me problem. Is
there anything I should be looking out for?

Best,

Sharon R.

Why are you trying to indent it, after applying the style? Set the indent
you want in the style.

Are you actually using a text box, or are you talking about a border?
Borders can be applied only to paragraphs with the same margins.

Aha! That may be just the problem!!!! It's definitely a
text box but I used borders and shading to give it
emphasis. If I cannot do that - given that I want to
include a bullet list - what would be my options for
jazzing up the "look" a bit?

THANKS SO MUCH for the enlightenment.

Don't mean to jump in but it almost sounds like you are in a table. If you
have a table cell with borders around it, it almost looks like a text box.
If you try and TAB it creates a new cell (or row). Is this the case? If
so, try using CTRL-TAB to insert an indent, even though the use of a table
isn't really what you want to do here. As Graham mentioned, you can add
borders to paragraphs if you want to "jazz" it up.

Hi Bill,

Jump in by all means! Actually it was Suzanne who got me
on the road to recovery ... and it was my erraticism that
caused the initial problem. It was definitely a text box
that I created but then I decided to apply shading and
lines. That's where I went wrong ... instead of using the
text box border and shading options I went off on a
crusade and used the border and shading options from the
Format menu.

So ... my problem is solved. The text box doesn't look as
pretty (I had wanted a 3D shadow effect) but I'm happy to
have a solution. Next question (while I have you):

Do any of you have any experience on the wayward nature
of using AutoShapes? I posted a gripe this morning under
the Drawing & Graphics category ("Callout drawing object
misbehaving"). This time, I haven't engaged in any e-
heroics. The callout just won't do what it should.
Honest. ;-)

What is the problems with your Callout? Basically when you insert an object
on your sheet (other than regular text), you have two choices:

1 - insert it inline (which means it is part of a paragraph or it's own
paragraph)
2 - insert it "floating", which means you have text wrap around it, etc.

In most cases the default is "in-line" (Tools, Options, Edit TAB). Holler
back with your specifics since I don't normally frequent any other Word
NewsGroups but this one.

Hi Bill,

Below is the wording of my post in Drawing and Graphics

I am having trouble with one of the callout objects
(rounded rectangular callout) from the Autoshapes
collection. Having inserted the object I then chose
the "Resize Autoshape to fit text" option so that
the "speech bubble" would grow as I entered text. It
does ... but only to a point! Slowly but surely the
bubble stops growing and text gets hidden. I can manually
increase the object but it's a pain. This will be part of
a template that will be distributes to a number of users
so is important to me. Any ideas? PLEASE?

I'm sure you'll have the answer to this one! :-)

I could not duplicate your problem. I drew a rounded rectangle callout, set
it to "Resize Autoshape to fit text", then started typing and the callout
expanded until it went over the size of the slide. My callout text was 18
point Arial as well. By the way, this is WAY to many words for a slide and
PowerPoint handled it just fine.

Sorry, not sure why you are having this problem. If you want, send me a
small sample of your problem to my contact address as www.pttinc.com and I
will take a look.

Sorry, but I just realized that I tried this in PowerPoint and not in Word.
I'm not used to using callouts in Word. Should work the same though!
