Incredibly Slow Form Load - now

I build a business critical contact database in Access 2000.
We have installed Access 2003 several months ago.

In the past couple of weeks, the database has really slowed down!
Today it is barely loading (3+ minutes to load the forms when open the
app)...

I have tried compacting the database, and helped a bit. Is this typical? Is
there some known thing I could do to improve its performance.
There is one table, that logs phone calls, that is just over 1300 records,
so it can't be that.
It IS still Access 2000 format. Is that a problem?

Any suggestions? There is essentially no performance on this. Pull down
menus take a long time too!

I have the same problem. Had Access 2000 now on 2003. Editing/designing forms
is incredibly slowwwww! My PC is P4/3Ghz/2Gb RAM. It used to be
instantaneous, I would click on a button on my form and edit its properties
right away, now there is at least a 10 second delay, then another delay when
I edit the buttons event properties, etc. Ive also compiled and even upgraded
the .adp file from 2000 to 2003 version. Still unbearable. I went to
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/performancefaq.htm but found this is only for
Access 2000 and below. This same .adp file was much faster in Access 2000.

It appears this slowness is only when first opening the form in design view.
Afterwards, I can create a new blank form and add buttons quickly as before.
Is this because some new "feature" is enabled by default (how do I turn it
off)?

I have noticed that this problem only occurs on forms with lots of
buttons/controls. But still, editing this same form used to be much faster in
Access 2000 and this "upgrade" has steadily been turning out to be a
downgrade, typical Microsoft? Of course, the knowledgebase makes no mention
of the problem.

For anyone who cares, I solved the slow form editing problem by disabling
Error checking in tools | options. More specifically, by unchecking 'invalid
control properties'.
