Why bother to change your virtual memory settings?
Windows 2000 usually does a good job itself.
Otherwise virtual memory sould be slightly more than the
available RAM memory.

Hi dot,
The proper way to increase pagefile.sys is threw the Control Panel applet...
If you have problems in the future with pagefile.sys and need to rebuild it, you will need to
do it this way.
Do this...
Start
Settings
Control Panel
System
Advanced[tab]
Performance Options...
(note Virtual memory shown here)
Change
Set the Initial and Maximum same
(the rule of thumb is two to two and one half your RAM)
The Micro$oft rule is no less than RAM+32 meg or more than 4095 meg
On a workstation you probably won't have to worry about the upper limit.
There have been problems recently with Virtually Memory being caused by virus related, being
hacked, or hotpatch conflicts causing some to need to rebuild Virtual Memory. There are
capable experts in this forum that can assist you with this if need be.
I should tell you much of these complaints have come from those who do not have all of the
following:
A good AVP (up to date definitions)
A good firewall (hardware [i.e. router], or software[i.e Zone Alarm])
Privacy software (i.e. Ad-aware)
Anti-malware software(SpyBot-S&D)(Caution learn how to use this; it will suggest deleting
burner executables sometime)
WARNING: Hackers are on a rampage, and have begun operation 'Oblivion'. Please tell all of
your friends to get and use the above programs. They have free versions and can all be found
at www.spychecker.com . It seems that most have some type of vendetta against Micro$oft. If
you and your friends continue without proper protection, count on getting the 'Aids' of
computers.
You can do a check of my sincerity by doing a search and placing 'dcdon' in the 'from' line to
see what I do to help those with troubles and problems in this and a few other forums..
