Increase connectoid DTE speed to 230400

Hello,

I have an internal Winmodem (USR 5699B) that is capable of a DTE speed of
230400. Unfortunately, the config setup will only allow a max of 115200. I
want to use v.44 compression to best advantage, and so want to try the
higher DTE speed. Is there any way to work around this limitation in the
config dialog?

TIA,

- Steve

The drivers that came with the modem don't support it?

In Hyperterminal, I can select 230400, and it works fine. But in Phone and
Modem Options under Control Panel, 115200 is the max in the dropdown box. Is
it a Windows 2000 thing?

The default is 115200 max, but if the modem drivers provide different
then you would get the higher setting.

Bob,

Thanks for your input. I've been fiddling around with settings, and it seems
that for Winmodems, it doesn't really matter what you set for DTE speed.
E.g., I set the connectoid all the way down to 300 [sic] bps, and a) the
modem still connected at its usual speed (48K) and b) seemed snappier than
ever. I don't pretend to know what's going on, but I guess I'll stop
worrying about it now. :-)

I don't know how much the system really is affected by that setting with
the PCI subsystem. In the "land of legacy" and UART connected modems,
cranking the "speed" too much higher than the data stream caused the
system to spend a lot more time handling interupts and actually reduced
performance.
