Hi

There has been two instances over the past few days when a
simple formula in a cell has returned incorrect values.

Instance 1: A SUMIF calculation returned an incorrect value
Instance 2: A formula subtracting one cell from another
returned an incorrect value

Instance 1 was on Excel 2000 with only one other window
open. Insntance 2 was on Excel 97 with several other files
open.

In both instances the files were set to automatic
calculation and if the formula was re-entered it returned
the correct value.

As a consequence this has raised serious reliability
issues on the spreadsheets we submit to management.

Can anyone please explain why this is happening and how to
solve it?

Thanks

Graeme

what was the exact error ??
Was it simply not recalculating or was it calculating but showing the wrong answer ??

can you post the 2 formulae, what they did show and what they should've show

For the simple subtraction, can youalso post what was in the 2 cells that were used in the formula

Instance 1: =SUMIF($AB$4:$AB$147,$I$171,M4:M147)

The answer was 72115 but it showed 97216

Instance 2: Cell S82 = S81 - S78

where, S81 = ROUND(S79/2,1)
and S78 = Book1!$R$62-Book1!$R$20

The answer was 3.9 but it showed 6.4

The linked files were open at the time and up to date.

Graeme,

Post the formulas in question with some sample data, and indicate
the results you are getting along with the results you expect to
get.
