Incorrect RAM in system properties

Currently on my system I have 512MB DDR ram installed
except in my system properties the computer thinks that
only 384MB of ram is installed. Of course this is
frusterating because it's only running that 384MB. Is
this a problem that is fixable or is it just the fact
that i'm not using the greatest ram?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried moving the memory to a different slot to see if that helps to
identify the correct amount of memory?

Or tried putting the memory into a different machine to see if that helps?

It sounds like one bank is not reporting and this could be a motherboard or
memory module problem. About the only way to find out which is try these
suggestions (at least the cheapest).

Silly question. Do you have a motherboard with an "on board graphics card"?
And if so, has this graphics card think it has 128Mb of memory. If so again,
and you go into the bios, find the settings for this card, and change them
to read that it has 64mb of memory, do you suddenly have 448mb of memory
available to windows?
