Okay, kind of wierd problem here. Has happened twice to
me within the year on two different Windows XP systems.
I'll just be sitting at the desktop - not doing anything -
and suddenly the message pops ypu that the cable has been
unplugged. I know for a fact it hasn't been, so I reboot
the system. After I enter my password it takes a while
where it should be getting DHCP information. So i go into
the console and do a 'ipconfig /all' to see what it got
and it assigned like it was unplugged with the typical
169.x.x.x address. Now the odd part is that it lists a
physical address of FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF.
A reboot and shutdown don't change it. A deletion of the
device from the Task Manager doesn't change it. Moving
the card in the computer has fixed it in the past, but the
problem came up again. As I have said, it has happened on
two different computers that have different NICs.
I thank you all ahead of time for any help you can offer.
I'll be checking with this post to answer any question you
may have.
