incorrect file association rule set

Hopefully I've used the right terms for explainin my issue...I've searched
the newsgroups and not having any luck trying to find the answer I need.
Here's the situation:
I received a file that came in a .pdf format. When I went to open it, the
program wasn't recognized and it asked me to choose a program to open the
file. The file I normally get from this person is an Excel file, so I chose
Excel and neglected to "uncheck" the box that says, "always use this program
to open this file type".
Now, I cannot open any pdf document as it tries to open in Excel.
Can anyone tell me how to remove this rule so that we can go back to looking
at our files correctly?? (I'm sure there's an easy answer, but I sure can't
find it.)

Right-click on any pdf file and choose "Open with." Choose the program
Adobe Reader, and check the box "always use this program..."
 
open explorer, select tools-option, select the file type tab, look for pdf
and change it accordingly to open with acrobat reader.

Next time you receive excel file with other extension and you are sure it is
safe to open, then just rename it to xls before opening. if you have to drag
form your email to desktop or a folder before renaming and open.
