Incorrect Auto-filling of E-mail Address

Initially, I had incorrectly filled in the e-mail address
for a contact. The e-mails of course bounced back and the
error message says that the server is trying to re-send
them for up to 3 days.

I now have the correct e-mail address and have input it
in as a Contact. However, when I try to send another e-
mail to this person, the first incorrect address shows up
and when I right click the e-mail address and ask it
to 'Look Up Contact', it says that there is no such
contact in my address book. When the incorrect address
auto-fills, it doesn't even give me an option to select a
second e-mail address.

But when I type in the correct e-mail address and 'right
click to 'Look Up Contact', it finds the right info.

So, my question is how can I erase the incorrect e-mail
address from auto-filling and have the correct e-mail
address auto-fill when I send a new message to this
person.

Please note that I have shut down and restarted my
computer but still no luck.

I hope you can help me solve this issue!!???!!!

You should post your Outlook version so we can answer. In Outlook 2002,
remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:

I'm using Microsoft XP and Outlook 2002. Thanks for the
suggestions. Here's what happened.

1) Tried highlighting the autofilled name and e-mail
address and hit the Delete key before tabbing out. When I
tried the e-mail address again, the old one popped up.

2) Went to the link you suggested however, they only give
instructions for Windows 2000 or Windows Me and Windows
NT 4.0 or Windows 98.

At any rate, I tried to emulate the instructions and in
my search in Microsoft Explorer, found one
folder "Outlook" located "C:\Documents and
Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook".

When I opened this file, there were 4 files:

"outcmd" DAT file
"Outlook" Office Data File
"Outlook" FAV File
"Outlook.srs" srs file

I assumed that the Office Data File was the one to open
so when I tried, "Attempting to open Office Data File
(.NK2)" and "Windows cannot open this file" appeared and
gave the option to either to go to the web to find the
software or to select a program on my computer to open it.

I tried going to the web and the page said "File Type
Unknown" and "Description: Windows does not recognize
this file type". It also gave the option to
click "FILExt" to get more info.

The additional info suggested a path on my hard drive to
find the file to correct. This was the same which brought
me to the 4 files I found when I search the hard drive.

Sorry this is such a long e-mail, but I wanted to exhaust
options before bothering you again.

Outlook 2002 has a glitch in that it won't let you delete an autocompletion
entry from the "list" if only one exists. Your two options are to clear the
entire cache (instructions posted) or to manage to create a second entry
that will appear in the list so you can delete the unwanted one. There's no
other way to do it. Outlook 2003 fixes this problem.
