Inconsistent Contacts/Address Book behavior

Here are a few things I'm having trouble with and I'm hoping someone can
clarify these!

1) Sometimes a contact will autocomplete when I type their name in a new
message, and sometimes it doesn't. This seems to change from day-to-day (I'm
assuming it resets or something with each restart of Windows or Outlook?).
Also, if I type in their full name as it is in the Address Book, a red line
appears underneath their name to indicate that Outlook doesn't recognize this
contact. But I know it's there because I can see it in the Address Book.
Why is this happening?

2) What's the difference between Address Book and Contacts? I notice this
in the "Show Names from the:" pulldown within the top-right corner of the
Address Book. When I select Outlook Address Book it says "No entries in this
Address Book" and when I select Contacts it shows all my contacts.

2) Mouse wheel scrolling doesn't work in the Address Book window (this is
the window that pops up when I press the Address Book icon on the menu bar to
the left of the "Type a contact to find" text field). Is there a setting for
this?

The red line indicates there are multiple entries. RIght-click the name to
see the choices.

In that drop-down, Outlook Addres Book is a service and acts like a
container for all of the Contacts folders you have that are enabled as
address books. If you had more than one Contacts folder and they were all
enabled, they'd all show up under that heading and you could choose which
one to use.

What version of Outlook? The scroll wheel certainly works with OL 2003 on a
Windows XP system. Outlook 97 through Outlook 2000 and some versions of
Intellipoint had some issues with this. See if one of these articles helps:

Thanks for the reply Brian. My comments below:

* Ok, I'll try that next time the red line appears.

* So are you saying that no contacts can be stored directly in the Outlook
Address Book "folder"?

* I'm using Outlook 2002 (10.6515.6735) SP3. I'll check out those articles.
