One of my subdomains, secure.big-discount-hosting.com, is inaccessible
right now. Yet I can ping it from www.dnsstuff.com. This has happened a few
times lately.

Anyone knows why?

Hi - I can ping big-discount-hosting.com and get an IP (and a reply - you
really ought to disable inbound ICMP) and can also go to
http://big-discount-hosting.com ...however, there doesn't seem to be a
public DNS entry for secure.big-discount-hosting.com.

Why is the public dns entry disappearing? It was there before. The entry
for 'secure' is in my dns server. I can go to the webpage fine from my
server.

Why do you advise to disable inbound icmp? Wouldn't that disable ping
replies?

Who hosts your public DNS? I imagine you aren't hosting your own in-house,
are you? If so, you do have a separate server for it, and it isn't
AD-integrated, right?

Yep. Why would you want to be pingable? "ping of death" may not be such a
security threat as it used to be, but don't open anything you don't actually
NEED.

Well, that's a change - it's working here, now, too.
