Inconsistencies with imported data

When I import the results are all over the place. e.g.
some records say a city name with a space at the beginning
others say the city name with no space or tow or three
spaces before the city name. How can I trim any extra
space without trimming the first letters of the city name?
Is is even possible to do that?
Please help!

Hi Tara

Look into the use of "update query" and the TRIM function.
The TRIM function removes spaces on both sides of a string.
