incomplete sorting of data-urgent

I am currently working in a large data base in excel 97.
When I go to sort data by heading rows it is coming back
with an incomplete sort. How do I work around this?
 
Try selecting the entire database first, then doing the
sort.

There may be a blank row causing some troubles.

If it is too big to click and drag, select the first cell
of the list then CTRL SHIFT 8 (CTRL *) which will select
all the contiguous cells from the originally selected cell.
