Incompatibility between ATI TV Player and Audigy 2

This message is regarding the echoing problem with the Audigy and the ATI TV
player within the Multimedia Center suite. Basically, when I'm watching TV
with the software-based TV player, I can hear echoing like there are two
copies of the sound coming out, the second one being about a half second
behind the first one.

I have read several newsgroup articles about this and was glad to discover
that both ATI and CreativeLabs made fixes for the problem and released
patched drivers and software. The problem was supposed to be fixed in
Multimedia Center 7.7+.

Unfortunately, although I have all the updated software, I am still having
this problem. I upgraded to Multimedia Center 7.9 and I did an auto update
for my Audigy 2 drivers and it told me that everything was current.

Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do to fix it? I've read
that if you have the Audigy 2 Platinum you can just use line2 for the TV
player. I don't have the Platinum version though. I have the regular OEM
version of just the card.

I'm about to find out. Just got my TV Wonder Pro card in the mail and
starting to install it. I also have the Audigy2 (retail, but not Platinum).
Will report results.

Thanks, Joe. I am not able to control or mute the sound, but I will also
try their suggestions when I get home.

I have the 7500AIW with latest Cat 3.7drivers and MMC 8.6. I have had on this system a 128 pro and a 9700 pro AIW Audigy 2
platinum, never had the echo problem. All your effects have been turn off? CMSS, and all EAX?

I read that article, the way to get the volume to work properly is to run the initialization wizard from the TV setup window. When
it asks for what input I use 'what you hear' then when it complains and opens the second window I choose 'line in'....all works as
it should remote, mixer and the like...No echo..

I notice the echo only appears when I check the "TV best quality" box under
the Video tab in TV Setup. The picture certainly gets better, but the audio
is shifted by more than a half-second. There is also a discernable echo.

I followed ATI's instructions for using the mic input on the sound card but
that didn't work (no sound). I also tried uninstalling the Audigy software
while leaving the drivers in tact but that didn't work either.

However, I was able to fix the problem by uninstalling Multimedia Center and
then reinstalling it. Previously, I had an old version (7.3?) and when I
upgraded I just installed the new version 7.9 over it. I should have
completely uninstalled it before putting the new version on. It works great
now. I installed all of the Audigy software and it still works.

Make sure to update your ATI drivers and Audigy drivers. A couple of days
ago (when I was still having the problem) I did a Windows Update and
installed a couple of "multimedia" updates from ATI. It didn't fix the
problem immediately but maybe it helped get me to where I am now.

MMC 8.2. I installed with all the defaults. Where do I find those tuner
settings?

start TV go to -settings- video tab you should have color tint etc on the left and on the right top source and below TV
standards...USA version could be different for elsewhere.

It's NTSC, and I can't change it.

if your in the USA then the setting is OK, but the fact that you can't change it is a sign of a bad install...was there an 8.2?
8.1 >8.5 must have missed one....

Thanks, JAD. I finally got the volume control to work. The sequence was
only slightly different from what you described. When it asked for audio
input source, I selected "Analog Mix (Line/CD/...". It then complained, and
I selected "Line In". Works fine now.
