I am on a dialup service and need to be notified whin i
receive calls while i an on the internet.

You need the v.90 standard for this. Check if your modem and the ISP
supports this and how to activate it. If you have an older modem you
have to upgrade the hardware.

Some modems include software that will do this. I believe that you need to
subscribe to a service with your local telephone company to get it to work.
There are also services such as "callwave" (www.callwave.com) that work a
little differently but accomplish the same thing.

I understand the service named CallWave will do this,
and AOL has a similar cost additional item that will also
accomplish this. There are also items such as Emerson
Switchboard which, if you have Call Waiting service, will
allow you to briefly answer the phone without
disconnecting, so you can give the caller a message to
call back or get a name. Services have monthly fees
around $4 a month; the switchboard without caller ID
retails around $40 I think. Don
