Incoming Mail is doubling up

I have four mail accounts, all coming into Windows Mail; for some reason the
default account receives two of everything. . . why come?

I have the settings so that the downloaded mail is saved to the server
unless deleted from the trash can -- this is a must (and the same on all the
accounts) as I use several computers throughout the day to access mail. I've
made all the setups identical -- the default is the only account that sends
me two of everything (and only to my new Vista computer).

Not an earth shattering problem, but an inconvenience.

Can you help?
 
This is usually caused by your AV scanning incoming mail or your Anti Spam filter

Disable your email scanning and test.
 
AV? Anti spam? My Vista computer is 5 days old; I have activated Norton --
if their is something else, I am not aware of it -- can you explain further?

I did remove the email scanning provided by Norton and then tested it; no
diffference. Thanks for your help.

Can you help?

Is it an IMAP account?
Turn off one of these options:

When starting go directly to my Inbox

or

Send and Receive messages at startup.

With both of these options checked, OE essentially is asking for the IMAP
mail messages twice, concurrently. Also, don't manually go to your IMAP
Inbox until the mail check is complete.
 
It is a POP3 account, so am I correct to realize I can not find these options
you mention?

It is being suggested that Norton is not at all compatable with Windows
Mail; if this is the issue, why did I get a 90 day trial built into my new
computer?

I appreciate everyone's help -- I am trying to hang in here with Vista, hope
others will continue providing solutions.

If I uninstall Norton and redo all my accounts like instructed, can I put
Norton back on and not have the issue return?

you got the 90 trial because symantec paid to have it installed. in hopes that you will continue paying them after the 90 days expires.

You can find the options, but I don't think they'll help with a POP3
account.

You get the 90 day trial because Norton paid the computer manufacturer to
put it on the computer. Norton and McAfee are incompatible with smooth
operation of Vista. Get NOD32 or Avast. The latter is free.
 
The computer manufacturers don't test stuff well. They just take the money
from Norton and stick it on your computer and then you buy it and find out
its not compatible.

Not their problem.
