I've been using Windows Mail since Feb 2008, but I discovered a couple of
days ago that all my inbox mails received before April 4 have been
disappeared from the Inbox.
Please help me get them back!!!

Thank you for the answer, but my "View" has already been set up as "Show all
messages". So I need a different advice.

This problem can be caused by a non-compatible antivirus.
Windows Mail tends to develop problems particularly from Norton
and McAfee antivirus programs. If you are using one of those,
uninstall it, reboot, then try Windows Mail again.

Thanks for the response. Actually, I am using AVG anti-virus program. Should
I still try to uninstall it and reboot?

It wouldn't hurt to try.
When you reinstall AVG, be sure to select the 'custom' install option
which then enables you to decline installation of the mail scanning module.
All antivirus mail scanners cause problems with Windows Mail.

If there is no improvement, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail:

It's interesting how many folks try and resolve problems utilizing trial and
error instead of analysis.

This IS a widespread problem with Windows Mail and Vista. Search the
internet to see the many instances.

In my case, I've went through 3 AV programs and it's irrelevant. I've been
lucky in that if I shut down mail and bring it back up, the messages 'seem'
to be there. Unfortunately, without knowing what messages have been sent,
it's almost impossible to tell.

Since you've been using it since Feb. 2008, it appears you have a recent
copy of Vista. If this came on a new system, try their tech support just to
ensure a record of this is on file.

Next try and talk to a MS rep. about the problem. I haven't seen any
reported 'fixes' posted at the MS site to date. Again this creates an
official record.

I wish I could state there's a quick fix, but I haven't found it. The more
folks that officially record problems for MS, the higher the change of
getting it fixed.

A 'short fix' is to temporarily get your mail from the server instead of
from Windows Mail. It's not great, but you probably won't lose any messages.

Microsoft is not going to assist you personally with Windows Mail problems,
but they have donated the facilities for these peer-to-peer support groups
The regular responders here have been thoroughly familiar with the
workings of Windows Mail for the past 16 months or more, and can be
relied upon to give dependable, time-tested advice.

If you are certain that the view setting is "Show All Messages",
then the most likely cause is interference from a non-compatible
antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus programs.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons

Hello,

I dont know if this has any relevance for this forum cos I am a mac
user, but looking at what I gather from this page it seem's there's
probably no solution for my problem:

I have a windows live ID that is Synced with Mac mail, and for the past
few days all my mail from the inbox has repeatedly gotten deleted and
sent to deleted mail folder on own accord too. I restored it, but now
its permanently deleted even from the deleted mail folder.

I dont need to retrieve it as i do have all alias / copies saved in Mac
Mail. But I did want to know *Why this is happening and how can it be
stopped from happening repeatedly?*

As per what i read here Non Compatible Anti Virus cannot have any thing
to do with a Mac user?

I have posted a question on windows live ID help.. Hope to possibly get
a helpful answer from somewhere..

You may get a better response in the following newsgroup for Windows Live
Mail:

This newsgroup is for Windows Mail in Vista
