My mouse is skipping. It makes it very difficult to select precise points in
a CAD drawing for instance.

It's probably just had a good day, or fallen in love, or something...

Details! USB, PS/2, cordless, touchpad, optical? Tried another, changed
batteries, tried different type, checked for latest drivers, tried different
mousing surface?

When did you last clean it? If clean but still erratic,
you had better replace it. (Some users find trackballs
more precise for CAD work.)

is your mouse cordless or optic? maybe your mouse has broken. YOu can
change with new one because mouse not too expensive. And after you
bought, you will feel comfortable when you did your task.

Funny no one seems to have mentioned this: If it's a roller-ball mouse
with a ball on the bottom that turns when you move the mouse, most
likely the rollers inside need cleaning; they get gummed up after
awhile. It's a classic symptom.
Open the bottom of the mouse, slip the ball out and use tweezers to
pull our the dust & junk around the tiny roller balls inside. You can
clean with alcohol but do NOT use any oil or lubricant; it's not
necessary. Should work fine when reassembled.

Speaking for myself, I was waititing for some answer as to exactly what sort
of mouse Akholdum has, rather than attempting a cover-all-possibilities
post.

Besides, Don Phillipson *did* point out cleaning it.

Yeah, that's true, but ... the 'skipping' business is so classical with
the types having roller balls so it seemed worth a few words since that
was my suspicion. It just seemed like no problem since it was no effort
for me and quick to jot out.
Cleaning an optical, IR or RF mouse is a possible fix too I suppose,
but it'd have to be pretty grungy to impact it that way<G>.
lol, when I went optical a long time ago, I figured those days were
over: NOW it's the button/roller gummed up on this latest one. It's
lasted a long time though; first time I ever wore off the finish on a
mouse carcass! A little rubbing alcohol fixed 'er right up though. The
side button's worn down so far I can't feel where it is anymore; you
just sort of have to know<g>. Might be time to replace it.

As happens so often I don't think the OP ever bothered to post anything
back. NBD but it's nice to know sometimes what the problem/s are/were.

Cheers,

Twayne

lol, I trained mine: Every time a dialog box of any kind opens, he runs
right over and sits on the OK button! Even if I haven't selected
anything yet.
I had to break him or running in circles though - he kept changing
desktops on me.
