inaccessible_boot_device

When I tried booting my desktop this evening, windows started up (the windows
logo comes up and it starts loading), but then I get the blue screen with
this error. I think the hard drive is ok b/c I can access with an old boot
disk, but the hard drive will not boot in wndows. Any ideas how I may be able
to repair this? Thanks in advance!

You could press F8 during the early boot phase, then select
"Last known good configuration" or "Safe Boot".
 
thanks, I tried that first thing yesterday, it wouldn't even boot up in safe
mode....same error. I was able to get hold of a boot cd and boot to it to run
chkdsk, and that seems to have repaired the problem this morning. thanks for
your help!
