Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G
2 x Hitachi T7K250 SATA disks 250Gb
PRIMARY 2GB FAT 16, EXTENDED (rest of disk) containing 26GB FAT32, then
20GB FAT32, then rest of disk as an NTFS logical drive
W2K install Fails after loading drivers producing
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE during RAID 1 install.
I have used latest drivers from Gigabyte website as well as those from
the CD-Rom.
In each case I have loaded the RAID driver, then the storage controller
driver via 'S', before attempting to proceed with install.
The RAID array appears as healthy in the BIOS. THere was no other hard
disk in the machine: there is a DVD-RW on IDE0. W98 boot CD-Rom has no
problem accessing the disk partitions so access from BIOS is OK.
WORKAROUND ATTEMPTED
Installed same partitions onto a standard IDE disk, then recreated onto
the RAID array using Acronis True Image. This necessitated installing
RAID drivers into W2K during which it was necessary to insert the
floppy containing NVRAID.SYS. On removing the standard IDE disk and
rebooting to the RAID, I got the same INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.
DRIVER ISSUE
I have read that older Nvidia mboards had a problem because the drivers
were not WHQL, and Windows install attempted to switch to Microsoft's
drivers which do not work with that hardware: however symptoms of that
should be blank screen or non-stop rebooting. I don't have those
symptoms.
ANY IDEAS PLEASE???
