Inaccessible Floppy Files

My son has a 3.5" floppy with a powerpoint slide show and
wants to add a couple of new slides, however, when I try
to access the A drive, it wants me to format the disc. he
did this project at school and i don't want to lose the
data via formatting. Anyway to open these files w/o
formatting?
 
It sounds like the floppy may not have been formatted in the first place.
Are you sure there is data on the floppy disk? What kind of PC's are used
at his school. What operating system is on them compared to yours? I'm
just guessing there.
