Like Richard, I too, am experiencing that STOP error (code
0x0000007E).

Can anybody help us on correcting this problem, please?

- What is the recent history of your machine (hardware/software
changes)?
- Do you use a virus scanner? Is it up-to-date?
- Do you use a firewall? Was it active?
- Have you tried "Last known good configuration"?

Recent history of my machine was:
1. Yes, I use virus scanner (PC cillin) that automatically
updates. I just realized that the last 3 or 4 days it
stopped updating, as no automatic update dialogue box came
out.
2. The firewall in that virus scanner is activated.
3. Yes, I tried the "Last known good configuration", but
did not work and ended up in blue screen with the Stop
0x0000007E error.
4. The problem immediately came up after I downloaded a 30
day trial version of an AutoCad program for graphics
animation. After the download (have not started to
install) the PC froze. I hit "ctrl-alt-del" and after it
rebooted, the blues screen came up with the Stop error.

Is there a way to get around that stop error and get to
the DOS prompt at least? Don't want to reinstall windows
2K as there are important files in HDD. Pls. help.

I suspect that your trial version of AutoCad installed a driver
that is incompatible with Windows. Try booting in Safe Mode,
then use msconfig.exe (http://www.svrops.com/svrops/dwnldoth.htm)
to disable every non-essential startup program.

Alternatively, boot your machine into the Command Console,
then examine the services it runs. With some luck you can
identify the one that pertains to AutoCad, and disable it.

My PC could not boot into any mode. It starts loading Win
2K, the blue bar graph below the Windows 2000 start up
screen showed pregoress up to about 60% and then it stops
and the blue screen "stop error" appears with the error
code 0x0000007E. and that's it. I tried boot into "safe
mode", with "prompt", it only failed.

Thanks for your help.

Please tell me how to go to Command console. I pressed F8,
but there is no Command Console. By the way, I read the
Blue Screen eror and it actually indicates Stop 0x0000007B
and not 7E that I previously read erroneously.

thanks for your help.

- Click Start / Help / Search Tab
- type Command Console
- Double-click "To run the Recovery Console on a system that will not start"

You will find a complete description of the process in there.
