inaccesible files after windows reinstallation

i reinstalled xp because of a virus and now can't access
files in the 'Documents & Settings' folder from before.
I tried taking ownership but the security tab is not
displayed. How can i access this folder?
 
have you disabled 'simple file sharing'?? i think simple file sharing hides
the security tab, turn it off and you should be able to take ownership.

How to access the Security tab:

For Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in
safe mode, and then log on with an account that has Administrative
rights to have access to the Security tab.

For Windows XP Professional, the instructions here can be
