I fell for the "MSN Ultimate Security Patch" and got the
virus. I used the Microsoft correction system. Now I
can't call up a software program from the desktop. Also,
If I go the the panel and try to eliminate a program so I
can reinstall it, I get the message "Cannot find
file"rundll32.exe."

What to do?

What is the "Microsoft correction system"? If you are talking about the 3
step protection plan (or 4 step depending on which MS page you read), these
are preventative maintenance steps. They are not steps for removal of a
virus or worm.

Make sure your system is clean. Scan with an up to date antivirus program.
Look up the virus at the a/v vendor's website for a copy of manual removal
steps that you need to perform in addition to the a/v program's cleanup.

If you suspect your antivirus program has been disabled or damaged by the
worm, try one of the online scanners:

It sounds like your association for LNK files may be damaged. MVP Doug Knox
has some scrips that will restore specific associations. He also has one
that will restore all of the default file associations created by a fresh
XP install. You can find these fixes here:
