In my tool bar are missing the BOLD, ITALIC & UNDERLINING, and also the
ALIGNMENTS and FONT. How do I get them back.

Do you have adaptive menus enabled? Do you have the Standard and Formatting
toolbars sharing a row?

Thanks Suzanne for replying
#1) I don't know what or where the "adaption" menu is.
#2) When I click on the menu/toolbars, I get the Tool bar sharing row with a
bunch of applications, which I tried all of them, but don't get what need

If the normally displayed buttons are missing from the toolbar try the
following.
Click on the down arrow on the right end of the Formatting toolbar and
select Add
and Remove buttons | select Formatting | finally select Reset toolbar.

Since you haven't said what version of Word you have, it's hard to give a
specific reply, but Word 2000 and 2002 by default have "adaptive menus"
enabled. These are supposed to adapt to the way you use Word by showing only
the menu commands and toolbar buttons you've used most recently. This
selectivity is aggravated by combining the Standard and Formatting toolbars
on the same row, which allows less space for buttons.

To get around this, go to Tools | Customize and select the Options tab.
Then:

1. In Word 2000, clear the check box for "Menus show recently used items
first." In Word 2002, check the box for "Always show full menus."

2. In Word 2000, clear the check box for "Standard and Formatting toolbars
share one row." In Word 2002, check the box for "Show Standard and
Formatting toolbars on two rows."

If these changes don't restore missing menu items/toolbar buttons, you can
restore them by resetting the specific menus or toolbars (choose the Menu
Bar or a toolbar on the Toolbars tab and click the Reset button) or by
dragging specific menu commands or toolbar buttons from the Customize dialog
to the menu or toolbar. See
