I've been having a problem with my Win2k system related to
Outook Express and have exhausted the fixes to get OE
running. (discussed on the OE6 group) The suggested fix is
to do an "In-place uprgade" to repair my Win2k and then
reinstall the updates and IE6. I ran into a "hitch" with
the repair and exited before I could do any harm, hoping
to get some advice before proceeding. I saw a similar
issue discussed on this group back in May and thought it
might be good to ask here.

I have a dual boot Win95B/Win2K system, that is set up a
little different. My Win2k boot disk is G: . Win95 is on
the second disk and is C: . This works fine, but I have to
boot Win95 from a special floppy.

When I started the In-place Upgrade it identified,
"C:\WINNT Microsoft Windows 2000....."
There is no \WINNT on the C: drive.

Is this just a case of the setup system thinking that the
first drive (HD0) is always C: ?

If I go ahead with the In-place upgrade, will it screw up
the current drive numbering, trash the system or install
Win2K on the second hard drive?

I have searched the KB and google.groups and found only a
couple near matches, including: KB242066/KB155222 a
discussion here from May:
From: "Howard Kaikow"
Subject: In place upgrade in multiple boot system
Date: Mon, 12 May 2003

No...
It looks like the installer is not seeing your win2k installtion...
do you have a drive overlay?

what's the deal with your "special" win95 installtion...
it might have something to do with that

Drive Overlay? Not that I know of. I guess I'll have to search the KB on
that term.

The "special boot floppy" is beacuse I didn't understand that to have a true
dual-boot system with Win95, the boot disk has to be FAT. This is just a
Win95 boot floppy with one system file that starts Win95 on the second disk.
Since the boot disk does not have a FAT file system, Win95 on the second
disk does not get confused by it being there.

I wonder if you could do a repair installation from within win2000 (gui)
by putting in your cd ?
