in need of serious help

have only had this comp for a yr. after doing a system
restore about 3 months ago because of major crashes, now
i can no longer update anything from windows, cannot
update drivers and monitor display will not stay on
800x600 high color. even when i can manage to get started
with a windows update it freezes the whole system when
the scan gets to 66%. i have disabled the system restore
like hp told me to. and reinstalled the monitor driver
too. and still no change. i have no patience left! plz
help

If you have an HP 513N desktop, I can see the trouble. We
have several HP's. The only one to give us trouble is the
513Ns. Stops working, freezing up, won't do network
neighborhood, etc. Makes for a totally useless pc.
As to the problem of drivers, I would not go to
Microsoft.com but to hp.com and try to download the
display driver from there to use. Then try to update
driver. If this is to technical for you, you might ask
somebody else who knows how to do it. Try it in regular
windows mode, and if that fails, start pc in safe mode by
pressing F8 key while starting up to update the drivers.
Then with better video driver may be able to do microsoft
updates
