Hi:

Don't know why this is happening. No matter which web site I try to go to
the only thing that appears is an astrisk in the upper left hand corner of
the window. IE 6.

Any idea why this is happening?

Hi:

I should have mentioned that I do run adaware and spybot. Also, when the
asterisk appears ZoneAlarm pops open a window asking if x43ef.exe can
access the net. I say NO because I can find no indication on the net of
what this app is.

Any ideas what it is?

Thanks.

Hi:

Interesting item. AOL Instant messenger ALSO has an asterisk where the
advertising graphic is normally located.

What's this all about?

SOLVED!

I found that AOL (must be instant messenger as we do not use AOL) had set up
a proxy server entry in the

IE options | CONNECTIONS tab | LAN Settings button

The "use proxy server" button was selected, which I thought odd, and when I
looked I found:

http proxy nso.proxy.aol.com

Deleted the entry and IE is now working fine.

odd how that got in there.
