Avast detected the Kuang2 trojan horse in the subject file. Can some one
tell me how to get a replacement without reloading all of Win2kP and
updates? I'm not sure the file is part of Win2kP and may have come in with
one of the virus scanners that I have been trying.

Did you use a on-line scan by either Trend or Panda? There's a known
false alarm problem with Avast on that dll file after using one of
those on-line scanners. imscan.dll is installed by the on-line
scanners.

Yes, I have used both Trend and Panda recently. Are you saying that simply
running one of those causes the false alarm? I believe they both use
ActiveX and could be the source of the bad imscan.dll . I am migrating
to Avast!, but not if it gives false alarms.

Note that Panda Active Scan crashes Internet Explorer on a friend's Win98ME
machine. Norton 2004 on that machine doesn't flag imscan.dll.

I tried Trend a month or so ago. It had no problem with the file.

Thanks for your help.

I said one of them installs imscan.dll It's Avast that's false
alarming.

There's no need to keep the file on your PC.
Thanks for your help.

You're welcome.

Take a look at my web site for some prevention recommendations. And
also the link I have to a claymania page on "safe hex".
