I have some audio tapes of meetings, phone calls, and the like. Tape
recordings of speaking voices (not singing) where sometimes the sound is not
very good, and sometimes there is a lot of ambient noise. Does anyone know
of a good software solution for improving the intelligibility of the voices
on the tapes? Would Adobe Audition do a good job? Is there a cheaper
solution?

Thanks very much.

Audacity (free), Goldwave (slight fee but more options).

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

http://www.goldwave.com/

Thanks very much. I've looked at Goldwave and its probably my best choice.

It has more options than Audacity and is easier to use. I've used it since
version 4 and swear by it. The filters are great.

I would agree... Goldwave is about as good as it gets without spending big
bucks on something like Sonic Foundary. Great choice!
