Hi,
I would really like to ask you for help. I can receive messages BUT
I cannot send any messages at all from Windows Mail (Vista Business).

I double checked all the settings with the internet provider. and I still
keep getting the following message:

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Hello', Account:
'(e-mail address removed)', Server: 'smtp.lineone.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '554 smtp.tiscali.co.uk', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F

Could you please advise what I can possibly do???
I really appreciate your help
Regards
Ann

Who is your ISP?
What is the relationship between Tiscali and LineOne?
When you got that error, was your computer using an Internet
connection provided the entity which owns the lineone.net servers?

Hello Gary,
I believe tiscali is one entity with lineone, cause e-mail address is
@lineone.net, but i log into it on tiscali website. Tiscali is the Internet
provider. I have a wireless internet connection which is turned on at al
times.
Therefore when I'm using Windows Mail I am connected to the Internet.
What can I do then?
Please help.
Kind Regards
Anna

I'm still a bit confused over your Internet connection.
I understand your PC has a wireless connection, but does it
always connect via your home router and/or broadband modem
which is always connected to Tiscali? Or is this a laptop which you
carry about and use random wireless connections (Wi-Fi hotspots)?

The basic rule of thumb is that you can only use the SMTP server
of whoever provides your Internet connection at that moment.

Also, if you haven't done so already, you must uninstall any non-
compatible antivirus programs such as McAfee and Norton.

Hello<
Thank you for your advise. To answer your question: It a a desktop
PC-connected all the time to the wireless internet. It is in my work and they
did buy Norton program that protects computer from viruses. Are you saying
that because of that program we cannot send any messages via Windows Mail???
I appreciate your quick response.

Anna

So the desktop PC is at a work location, away from home?
I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing that your home
ISP, Tiscali, is NOT the provider of the Internet service at work.
If so, that would explain the inability to send.

If my guess is wrong, then the only other explanation is the
presence of the non-compatible Norton program. If you can,
uninstall it and replace it with the free Avast antivirus:

Hello,
I am trying to resolve the problem that appeared on the computer in my
workplace. The desktop PC is at work and the internet is at work, is it clear
now?
How could you possibly assume that have internet at home and use a PC
desktop at work ???
I got a response from tiscali, so they say that lineone.net has been
acquireed by tiscali.
And to let you know, my manager has recently bought Norton and I doubt he
would like to replace it after spending money on it, so is there any other
way to make windows mail work?
Also is it just windows mail that microsoft needs to improve or outlook in
vista as well??

Thank you for clarifying that, but you'd be surprised how many people try
to use their home ISP mail settings on their office PC. I had to rule out that
possibility.

A lot of people do both. Why do you think that's unusual?

Note that I prefaced my advice with "If you can..."
I fully realize that office politics being what it is, replacing the paid-for
antivirus with a free one may go against the grain.
Nevertheless, I am on solid ground here, and my fellow responders would
agree that both Norton and McAfee antivirus programs cause harm to
Windows Mail.
Also is it just windows mail that microsoft needs to improve or outlook in
vista as well??

Outlook 2003 and 2007 work fine in Vista.
Windows Mail needs a lot of improvement. There is some indication that
Microsoft will abandon it and replace it with Windows Live Mail.

Hello again:)
I wish it was everything fine.
NowI have a problem with Outlook 2007.I am sending a message and inthe
progress box it shows me that the task of sending message has been completed
succesfully. BUT the message is still sitting in the outbox !!!
Is there a solution to it???

Hi Ann. Unfortunately we don't cover Outlook in this newsgroup.
The Outlook experts tend to hang out in their own newsgroup:
