i cant import a video even though i have changed it to a format compatible
with movie maker, i get the message
The file cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is
not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and
install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to
import the file again.

i did what it said but it hasnt made any difference any ideas?

What was the original format?

How did you convert it?

What is the new format?

Many formats are reportedly compatible with
Movie Maker but the most reliable choices are:

Photos - bmp
Video - wmv or dv-avi
Music - wma, wav, wmv

Maybe it would be worth a try to download and install
a codec pack:

FWIW...it's always best if you create a System Restore
point before installing any software or updates.

1) Info about CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack)

or.....

2) K-Lite Codec Pack (Full)

Good luck...
