Please ignor my previous post, I'm still learning how to post .
I downloaded the WMEncoder 9 but I can't get anything to work. I don't
understand how to get the program to recognize the VHS player I have hooked
up to my computer. I can hear the tape playing, but I don't get any video and
everytime I try to start encoding, I get a message that some kind of codec
can't be found. The help file doesn't help, It is all mumbojumbo to me. Can
anyone help?

If your main goal is to make DVD copies
of your VHS home movies...you don't need
a computer. A DVD Recorder may be worth
a look.

Buy a cheep dvd recorder and vhs machine, this will save you hours of time
and wear and tear on your pc, well worth the investment.
Not to mention the learning curve and all the conversion time.

Hey, i see you guys have been talking about the video transfer and i'm
learning a lot from your posts... thanks!
but i have another question.

I have a Canon ZR45MC (mini DV tape) for my video's. I woulud like to know
if there's a way for me to connect THIS camcorder to my PC and tranfer the
video's from the Tape on my camcorder to a digital File format on my PC. What
do i need? etc..

Thanks!

Using VHS player, you don't need firewire, but you do need a video capture
card.

They don't cost that much, but it has your basics L and R audio and Video
in.
Anyway plug in the vcr into the capture card, run the software that comes
with the capture card. Push play on the vcr and tell your software to start
recording. You will end up with the saved file on your pc in the format you
selected, Now use your burn software and use the correct burn

OK, I did everything in the order you listed. My computer came with a video
capture card. I still get the message about the program not finding the CODEC
needed to open this fiile. I still don't know what a CODAC is or how to fix
the error.

Try reinstalling the software that came with the capture card.

A CODAC is software that Encodes and Decodes files.

Their is a program that scans your pc and will tell you what CODAC are
missing. I will look for it and post back. What software are you using..?

I appreciate any help. I'm not quite sure what you are asking when asking
what software I'm using. I have a lot of software in my computer. Do you mean
what OS? It is Windows XP.
