Importing video from DVD

Is there a simple step-by step tutorial I could follow to import DVD
video into Movie Maker 2? I would like to create music videos from them like
I have done with photos in Photo Story 3.
I've done this with videos captured from a DV camcorder tape, which is
saved as .avi files on the hard drive. Then I import that into MM.
What I have now are the videos I transfered to DVD on a set-top DVD
recorder and no longer have the DV tapes.
I've used Movie Factory 4 to capture the DVD's to the Hard drive and
have been able to edit them with MF4, but I would much rather use MM2.
Is there any way to do this and still keep the good quality of the video?
I hate to say that I have tried using the information on Papa John's
website, but I don't seem to have enough knowledge of the process to be able
to keep from getting lost.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well if you captured them to your hard drive with MF4 then you are half way
there!
I haven't tried capturing from DVD with MF4 so I am uncertain what format is
used to save the video to your harddrive but I assume it is MPG so all you
need to do now is convert them to AVI and your good to go with Movie Maker.
There are many programs out there that can do this, I use AVS Converter
www.avsmedia.com, but there are others. Check out this site for more info
and other programs that can do the job: http://www.videohelp.com/convert
