I have about 75 lpatops deployed running Windows 2000.
These laptops are mounted in vehicles and any one of about
100 users can log into them. The first time a user logs
in to a laptop, the login time can take up to 5 minutes.
Does anyone have an easy way to import all the profiles ?
I was thinking about logging into to a master laptop as
all the users, the copying those over, but I'm not sure if
that will work.

We have considered that, but the users are logging in via
802.11 and/or GPRS and it doesn't seem to be any
quicker... I was hoping to store them on the local
machines.

What about letting users log into a local user account and let all users use
the same account then? And if they need access to some central systems they
can just map those with the legit domain\user ?

Another great idea, except that the users need to run a
login script that maps drives, updates virus files, etc.
In addition, they aren't exactly what we would call
technical, so the more I can do for them up front, the
better.

I think that might work, copying over all the profiles. when the user goes
to logon, the laptop will check that is has a local copy of the profile and
will then only need to update any changes. As long as the profile name (
logonname ) is the same as on the server. The other issue will be to have
the correct security settings on each profile. Or you could just make all
profiles accessible to everyone if your not worried about security on the
profile.
