Importing txt file creates error

Sheryl Stout

I am trying to import a text file into Access 2002 (Office
XP). Both the file and the Access program are located
locally on my PC. When I choose File - Get External Data -
Import and choose the text file, I get the following
error message: "The Microsoft Jet database engine could
not find the object <filename>. Make sure the object
exists and that you spell its name and the path name
correctly". I have applied all service patches to both
Access and the Jet database engine. Any suggestions?

Hi Sheryl,

Not sure what could be causing this. Things to try:

1) Can you import other textfiles? if so, it's something different about
this one.

2) make sure the textfile has a conventional .txt or .csv extension

3) try moving and/or renaming the file so the total length of the path
and filename is 64 characters or less.
