I recorded videos from the television to DVD. Then transferred the videos to
computer with no problems. I'm trying to get the videos that are now on PC
imported to Movie Maker with no success. I don't recieve any errors, just
nothing.
Using XP.

Thanks Graham. I have downloaded all you have asked. I went with the
Quicktime 7 because I couldn't download the Alternative with the link
provided. I haven't been able to find the MPEG 2 decoder though. The big
trouble is I now have all these things on my desktop and have no idea how to
use them. I don't have any experience converting files. Could you help me
out more. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Scroll down for several options......

If the files are VOB files...the following freeware
can convert them to the .wmv format...then you
can import them into Movie Maker.

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Format Factory
http://www.pcfreetime.com/
(FWIW...you may want to uncheck
all the boxes on the final screen)

After downloading and installing Format Factory...
open the program and choose an Output Folder...
(this is where you will find your files after they are
converted)

Drag/drop your audio/video clips onto the
main screen...

Select 'All to ???' / OK...
(the ??? represents your choice of format)

Click...Start...on the toolbar...

That should do it...

If you need a DVD Decoder...have a look at
the following link.

Info on DVD Decoders:

or...

Or you could try the free VLC Media Player:

Or you might try downloading and installing the
following free Codec Pack:

(FWIW...it's always best if you create a System Restore
point before installing any software or updates)

Can you play dvds on your pc? If so, then you have a dvd decoder installed.
If not, you will need one.
Open streamclip
Filke
Open files
Navigate to a vob file that you want to convert
If you get a warning about fixing timecode breaks say yes and agree as it
has detected that there may be a problem with your file.
Proceed will then fix any problems.
File
export to dv
settings should be fine to leave, but check it is pal or ntsc wherever you
are
make dv
input file name
ok
leave it to encode.
