I'M NEW TO FRONT PAGE 2003 AND NEED SOME ADVICE.

I HAVE SEVERAL DOCUMENTS COMPOSED IN PUBLISHER 2003 AND WORD 2000 THAT I
WANT TO USE AS WEB PAGES TO ADD TO AN EXISTING SITE.

IS THERE ANY PROBLEM IN IMPORTING THESE INTO FRONT PAGE AS IS, OR IS THERE
ANOTHER METHOD?

THANK YOU.

Before anyone else jumps in, the first advice you will get is NOT to use all
upper case when posting.

If you link to a .doc file, it will open in Word (if the visitor has Word
installed).

Alternatively, you could cut the text from the Word document (ctrl-C) and
paste it into the HTML. You may need to reformat but this will remove the
need to open Word to view it.

Not sure about Pubisher.

Publisher...no can do. You need to start over in FP.

With a blank page open in FrontPage....
If the formatting in the Word.doc is just normal you can try.

Insert | File
Then browse to the Word .doc and see how it does.
It should retain most of the formatting.
If you are prompted to install a converter don't!
It should work without it.

As for the .pub Start over in FrontPage

Can I copy elements such as photos and alpha-numerics from the .pub document into the new Front Page web page?

I have a website and I am given both Publisher and Word Documents that I
will add to my website.

You have several options but this is what I do for each of those document
types.

Publisher documents are the most work. Using Publisher you can convert the
..PUB documents to HTML documents and then use them in Frontpage. Just
remember that when you convert a PUB document into HTML all you get is a
picture-image of the document. You CAN NOT edit any text. You stuck with a
'picture' of the document.

With WORD Documents, you can use WORD to save them as HTML documents and
then use them in Frontpage. The converted documents are completely editable
in Frontpage.

I hope this helps!

You can try... If you can copy the image and paste it in a photo editor then
save it as a jpeg (jpg) then import it into FrontPage (Using File | Import)
As for the Alpha-Numeric I Duno???

drag & drop on the images will work too...just don't use copy/paste on
images

First advice: please do not shout....using all caps is shouting and bad
nettiquette.

Secondly, you can't import a pub or doc file directly into frontpage, but
you can link to the files, or convert them to HTML in the respective
applications (Word and Publisher) and import them into the web.

Simply link to these documents. However, users will need Publisher and Word
to view them (which makes it not such a good idea).

If you have Adobe Acrobat, convert the files to PDF and link to the PDF
files. There are plenty of PDF conversion tools around if you don't have
Acrobat (full product, not the reader).

Yah...if you wanna call it that. Try it....it's a nightmare...and you'll
spend a lonnnnnnggg time patching it up...much better to start over in FP.

Actually I've seen some nice basic pages done with Pub, which is fine if the
web doesn't need to eventually grow...then converting them is insane :-)

| Heh? Publisher allows you to Convert to HTML.

Yep, and it creates a genuine mess.

I'm surprised to hear you say that!
But, it's a total mess. Massive amts of code and MS markup. This is not a
good way to go. It's tooooo bad Publisher gives the user that opeion . Have
you tried it! It's awful.

I knew about the bad code (I wouldn't use any MS program to convert anything
to HTML!). I was just wondering why you said that it *couldn't* be done. But
I see that you mean that it's better not to - agreed!

Poor wording on my part. It can be done if the doer is patient and has a few
cases of ice cold Foster's on hand.

By using all caps yourself & telling the user not to use all caps, aren't
you being a little hypocritical!?
