The office is installing an Exchange server, but will provide no support
beyond "here... this is your account. Use it." Everybody is currently
using Outlook (2000 and 2002) or Outlook Express. How does one go about
importing everything (tasks, messages, contacts) from the standalone into
the account on the server?

Thanks

My my my. I'd have a word with the management of the IT group if they're
leaving this up to you - this sounds pretty unprofessional of them....unless
the official policy is that you are not to have your old data in your new
mailbox.

Anyway - if they've set up your Outlook profile with the Exchange mailbox,
you can open it, go to file | import/export, find the PST file, and import
it. Note that if you have a large PST file, and the IT staff have set up
mailbox quotas, you may have problems. This is why they really ought to be
involved in this process.

Re OE - you'll need the users to export to Outlook, find the PST, and then
find that PST file and import it.

The situation is that they provide a server and usernames/passwords,
everything else is up to everybody else.

Thanks for reminding me of that... it will be a problem.

Thanks... that will help quite a bit. It also opens up some other issues,
but then again there are always other issues.

What kind of IT staff do you have? Are these external consultants? Sounds
like you aren't getting much in the way of support - I'd be concerned about
that.

Life isn't always perfect, I'm afraid. I work with what I have.

I sympathize - but I'd have a word with management. This sounds pretty
egregious.
