I have a fixed width text file (.txt) that I am able to open with Excel, but
when I try a straight import into Access from the .txt file, I get the
following error:

One or more rows of data in your file contain too many characters to import.
The maximum characters per row is 65000.

Why am I able to import the same file into Excel and can I get Access to do
this without having to create the additional step of converting from .txt to
..xls?

Thanks in advance..

During the import process, you have the ability to assign the field type of
the imported fields. They changing the problem field to a memo field type.

God Bless,
