In order to import from a PST file Outlook must be installed and using that
file as it's default.

Hallo

thanks for the hint. I tried to install Outlook, but it requires Outlook
Express to be installed before.
Outlook Express ist not availible in VISTE . I use Outlook 2000.

Download the trial version of Outlook 2007, use it for the import and then
uninstall it.

The other option is to transfer the messages from Outlook 2000 to Outlook
Express on your older XP machine, then move the OE .DBX files to the Vista
machine and import these with WM:

Not sure what your point is.
Microsoft obviously doesn't consider it a normal scenario for a user
to move from Outlook to Windows Mail.

Yea, but when Office 2003 won't work in Vista I'd like to be able to import
my old email folders into Vista's email program and check it out before
having to dish out a couple hundred more for Office 2007. I guess that's the
idea is to force us to upgrade yet another product. I think they should have
just made Windows Mail able to import from Outlook, that's all. There's no
need for all this roundabout stuff.

doh! Ok, now I feel like an idiot. We got the Vista free upgrade with the new
Compaq laptop we just bought and HP said that previous versions of Office
would not be compatible. Ok, I'll go ahead and install our Office 2003 then.
Thanks for the enlightenment! :)
