I'm having a problem importing Word docs into PowerPoint XP. I import the
file as an object. When I resize it I lose some of the table boarder lines.
Any thoughts on correcting this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Carl

Hi Carl,

I guess the first question is how are you exporting the Word document. Or
more importantly, how are you bringing it into PowerPoint?

I'm going to Insert | Object | Create from file. I then browse to the file
(Word Doc) I want to insert. The page is inserted but some of the table
lines are lost.????

Carl,

It could be you need to upgrade video drivers. Else, you may be better to
copy in Word and Paste special| Link to source into PowerPoint? I know paste
link works better with Excel worksheets.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - If you are using Office 2003, you should install this
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello CG,

To me, this sounds like a problem/limitation with how Word creates the
rendering for its OLE objects.

One of the first steps for troubleshooting OLE objects is to isolate
whether the problem is in the container (in this case, PowerPoint) or in
the server (in this case Word).

To isolate the problem:
1) First try a different container. I usually recommend WordPad since it's
the most generic OLE container and it ships with Windows.
a) Insert same object into WordPad
b) Perform same operation on object (if possible) that you performed in
other container (such as resizing object)
c) Does the problem occur in both containers? - If so, the problem might
be with the Server or just an OLE limitation

2) Try different servers: Which ones I recommend would depend on the
problem. However, it is not always possible to find another server
application which provides a rendering of it's object in the same way so
you might not be able to definitively determine whether it's a client
problem (because it occurs with multiple server applications).
a) Insert different server object into the same container (in this case,
PowerPoint)
b) Perform the same operation on this object that you performed on the
other object (such as resizing object)
c) Does the problem occur with this object? If not, repeat steps 2a-2c
with additional servers

So:
* If the problem occurs with only 1 server and multiple containers -> Most
likely a problem/limitation with server application
* If the problem occurs with only 1 container and multiple servers -> Most
likely a problem/limitation with client application
* If the problem occurs with multiple container and multiple servers ->
Most likely a limitation of OLE technology
