Hello,
I tried to import two songs from my computer to MM2, a
message appears stating that there is a security code on
the songs and cannot be imported. I downloaded one from
windows media and another one from a CD that I own. How
can I put songs that I know in the movie I am making?

Please help.

Hi there,

It sounds as though you have a digital rights problem.

This is what I would do ... and its based on the fact that I have the
Creative Labs 5.1 sound card fitted, but I expect other cards can do the
same sort of thing. The software that comes with my sound card has the
option of "Recording What You Hear" in other words it captures the sound
that is sent to the speakers....therefore, Set up Windows Media Player to
play back the track that is causing the problem...then use the windows
recorder, its basic but it does the job...select audio source as "What you
hear" and start it recording....when it has been recording for a couple of
seconds start the play back in windows media player. When the playback has
finished let the recorder run for a couple of seconds more and then stop
it, save the recording (making a note of where you put it) and that's that
!!!

There may well be more elegant ways of doing this....who knows...for myself
I never turn on the digital rights manager in any software...causes too
many problems especially now that it is acknowledged that you have the
right to make one copy of any software/audio you might buy.

Hi John,

I can see a new 'Digital Rights Management page going onto my website, as
the world turns and these issues become more common.

Hi there,
Yep, sounds like a good idea.

As I said elsewhere I never turn that type of feature on. Whilst some will
obviously think its because I want to use illegal software/files, I can
assure that it is not (In fact I am a serious pain in the bum for any
friends I go to when I find illegal software...I have none on my machine,
if I can't afford it I probably don't need it anyway and can not see the
point of saying "Oh I have such and such" the Such and Such is probably
something way out of their scope/field anyway and does little more than
make them look silly, and of course put them into a certain category)

OK - I added a new page in the Importing Source Files section, called
'Digital Rights Management'. Just a link to Microsoft's info about the
topic, enough to get it started.
