I am moving to a new machine (both machines run XP & IE 6) and would
like to move over my cookies and favorites (preserving the order of
the favorites) to the new machine.

Most importantly, how do I move over the cookies? In IE there is File
Import and Export, to import cookies, but this only seems to do it
one at a time. I have over 200 files and don't want to go through
them. Are there any tools to import many? Is there a way to copy the
cookies into

C:\Documents and Settings\johnboy\Cookies\

? (I tried moving the files in there, but it won't let me overwrite
index.dat which I assume IE needs to recognize the cookie files).

Also, how can you import the Favorites and preserve the original order
?

Any help appreciated.

The Export Cookies exports all of your cookies to s single text file. You
transport that file to the new machine, import it into IE, and all of your
cookies have been transferred. In theory, at least. I've never tried it.

You can follow the same process with your Favorites, but doing so will not
preserve their current order. Something you could try is to export the
registry key that records the order and then import it on the new machine.

To export the order key, open Regedit and navigate to and highlight
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder.
Now click Registry > Export Registry File and chose an appropriate name
and location for the file. The extension should be .reg.

To import the exported key, copy the .reg file to the new machine,
right-click on it, and click Merge. Again, this ought to work but I
haven't tried it myself.
