Importing information from excel into Outlook Contacts

Greetings,
I am trying to transfer information from an excel spread sheet, which
has two columns - name and phone number- into my the contacts section
of Outlook. When I attempt to import I get an error message which says
" File C... not recognized,excel translator unable to recognize....".
Any help on accomplishing this would save me from an otherwise tedious
task.

Are you using the "Comma separated values (Windows)" importer or another
one?
