Importing Hotmail into Outlook - can't make it work

My ISP provider is earthlink, and I can import my
earthlink email into Outlook without difficulty. However,
for some reason I can't make similiar settings work for my
hotmail account. I've tried every setting combination
imaginable, and nothing works. The error message suggests
that the server is being reached, but that the server may
not accept ssl. Is that what is happening? Can anyone
suggest anything?

how did you set up the account and what steps are you using to "import"?
