I am attempting to import my last two months of messages
from my old system in box to my new. Both are running on
XP and are outlook 2003.

I have taken the messages I want to import, saved them as
a personal folder.pst, transferred them to the new
desktop, but when I try to import to the new outlook, it
will only give me the existing personal folders as a
possibel oocation to import from.

When I followed the same procedure to import my contacts,
it worked beautifully.

Thanks in advance,

C,

I just did this and its a bit cludgy but it does work.
Open Outlook, Go to "File", then "Data File Manager", then "add"
Drill down to where your files are and select the PST file. Once it is added close the File manager, Your files will show up in your tree on the left in Outlook.

Good Luck

You don't have to import anything. Just copy the entire PST from your old machine to the new one. The default location for PST files on an XP machine is "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook"

Where it goes isn't really important though; you just have to let Outlook know where that is and you do that by clicking File|Open|Outlook Data File then navigating to the desired PST. Once you have it added to the profile you can either:

1. Tell Outlook you want to use your old file as the default -- Tools|E-mail Accounts|View or change existing e-mail accounts...deliver new e-mail to the following location.

2. Ccpy groups of records from the old folder set to the new one. Select one or more records by pressing Ctrl+mouse or select them all and click Edit|Copy to folder...and select the new folder.

Either way, you will want to right-click "Close" the top level of whichever folder set yyou don't need when you have finished consolidating the data.
