when i try to import my video clips it says they are the wrong type. i looked and they are AVI insteade of avi. how do i change them.

There are many types of avi files, have a read of this and if it doesn't

They may be compressed AVI files in which case you must have the appropriate
codec on your PC first.
Use G-Spot Codec Identifier to find out if they do indeed use codecs for
compression and if so, which codec.

You may be able to convert it with the Canopus file converter which is free:
