Importing Excel to Access / Conversion Error

I am trying to import a spreadsheet from Excel 2000 into Access 2000
via "Get External Data" and get the following error message:
"not all of your data was successfully imported..." with an error
table created. Looking at the error table and cross checking the
Access output against the Excel source, I am confused.
Some errors are listed relating to date or customer numbers but I am
unable to see any error - the data sits nicely and correctly in the
appropriate column. On the other hand, some errors listed are correct
with some cheque numbers not being transferred from Excel to Access.

I did reformat the columns in my Excel spreadsheet to ensure that they
are either numbers or text or date, so I don't understand that some
data gets transferred without problem and others aren't. Looking at
the source, I can't see the reason.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards
Tom

Tom,
I have done a good bit of importing data from other
sources, and have had similar problems. It is most
probably a data conversion problem. You have to develop
a few trouble shooting techniques to find out the
problem. For example, you might try, on an offline
database, adding another date field, but make it a text
field, and see if it imports into the text field OK. If
so, you may find the date is not a valid date ie
2/31/03. Check to make sure that the field in Excel is
also a date field.
